Experimental Investigation of the Effect of Nitromethane Addition to Gasoline Fuel on A Single-Cylinder Spark-Ignition Engine Performance and Emissions

In this study, the effect of nitromethane addition to gasoline fuel on engine perfor-mance and emissions in a single-cylinder spark-ignition was experimentally inves-tigated. By adding 5% 10% gasoline, experiments were carried out at full load six different cycles. Engine load, consumption, exhaust gas tempera-ture, measured during experiments. According experimental data, power, torque, specific tem-perature, average effective pressure, thermal efficiency, CO, CO2, HC, NOx values compared with each other. these results, nitromethane's im-proved efficiency. It is un-derstood that improves combustion efficiency increases With nitromethane, an increase CO2 emission, which product complete combustion, decrease CO emission occurred. This supports HC have de-creased. There has been emissionsIn addition, since more than causes instability, it created difficulties using without modification engine.
